Digital textures

Hmmm...I don't know...

Did you use the "noise" filter? I like it in small doses, but its a little overboard here.

Something you might try is making a new layer of the image on top of the original, then doing the filter effect to the second version on top and manipulate that into the original, blending out bits and pieces, set the eraser to feather and take out the effect in some of the lighter areas. The texture works but if you can have it look like it's built up in some areas and not in others I think it could work a lot better.

Something else that you could do is find big pictures of organic, membrane, organic stuff (check flickr) that you could extract stuff like vein lines from and emulate that liquid shine that always reflects off of something oganic and wet like a brain or heart. Well, if you were to take it to that extreme.

Yeah, I think it works well in the "creases" for lack of a better term.

Thanks for the tips.

Yeah, the noise is over the top. More or less what happened was that I drew this in colored pencil and the scanner we have here at work just would not pick up some of the more subtle tones so I said screw it and threw a bunch of filters on it. My experience with Photoshop consists of messing around with basic stuff while I'm in between projects. Layers are something I never think of using but I'll give it a shot.
