Seeing What Sticks

Hey all. Some recent collages for your perusal. Not necessarily finished -- most will be cropped or expanded in some way, and these scans are a bit dodgy and need some color correcting, but anyway. Okay, too busy stuffing spinach and paneer down my gullet to say much more. Best to everyone, "yo"

great work.

can you explain what the thinking was behind them?

I'm having a big Pink Floyd feeling from these. Cool stuff. I agree with "Turok Reader" (who are you again?), is there a larger conceptual framework or narrative going on? Because i was certainly feeling it, but not really connecting it all.

I always get signed in as that first and I can never be bothered to switch. annoying because it`s linked to my gmail account which I hardly ever look at.

I love these. I think you've got a great book in all these Jeffrey.

Thanks all.

No real framework or concept behind these... mostly just indicative of my working methods: I surround myself with piles and piles of images according to various vague categories (backgrounds, mechanical, biological, etc.) and start by picking out the stuff that seems most suggestive to me, and work through the options from there. I usually throw away nine out of every ten efforts.

But that's an improvement on my drawing (especially comics) which was an emotional disaster for me... having a specific idea in my head and not being able to make it palpable on the page just about ruined art for me forever. Collages are much more satisfying because I *don't have any preconceptions. Though I do end up having to "rationalize" a lot of the results (if only to myself) which can be kind of troubling.

Funny you mention Pink Floyd -- I love the Hipgnosis guys an awful lot. Much much more than someone like Winston Smith who I think is a bit of a wanker. I like ambiguity over poltical statements, I guess that much is obvious.

As for a book -- I've been talking about a zine with a photgrapher friend of mine, so maybe. I do think my stuff is more interesting (if at all!) in a certain sequence or arrangement, so a book would let me manipulate that aspect of it.
